Egypt welcomed the Dutch government’s decision to ban trade in goods originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.
Egypt said the move reflects a commitment to justice and represents a practical and responsible application of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2334. This Resolution affirms the illegality of Israeli settlements and calls for an immediate halt to settlement activities to preserve the prospects for peace and the two-state solution.
Reaffirming its longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, Egypt called on all EU member states and the wider international community to follow the example of Belgium and the Netherlands by adopting similar legal measures to prohibit products originating from Israeli settlements.
Egypt stressed that lasting peace and security in the Middle East can only be achieved through ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and implementing the two-state solution in accordance with United Nations resolutions.
