Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, discussed regional developments and ways to reduce tensions during a phone call on Saturday, Egypt’s foreign ministry said.
The ministers agreed that de-escalation and a return to diplomatic and negotiating channels between Iran and the United States should be a priority, the ministry said in a statement.
They also agreed to uphold the Islamabad memorandum of understanding as a possible framework for resuming talks and reaching political solutions aimed at preventing further instability in the region.
The two officials discussed regional security concerns and stressed the need to address sources of tension while respecting good-neighbour principles, state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs.
They called for disputes to be resolved through peaceful and diplomatic means, the statement said.
