Cairo- Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed his pride in the depth of close relations binding Egypt and Lebanon at the official and popular levels.

He said that Egypt is keen to maintain the safety, security and stability of Lebanon in a way that would achieve the Lebanese national interests.

The president’s remarks came during his meeting on Thursday with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri attended the meeting, together with Abbas Kamel, Head of the General Intelligence, Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

President Sisi said Egypt is working hard to spare Lebanon the dangers of conflicts in the region. This is within the framework of Egypt’s continuous support to the Lebanese people and the unity of their national fabric.

For his part, the Lebanese prime minister praised Egypt’s tireless and sincere efforts to mobilise international support for Lebanon at various levels in light of the continued difficult challenges facing the Lebanese people, especially at the political and economic arenas, according to Radi.

Mikati said his country appreciated Egypt’s role in maintaining stability in Lebanon and the entire Arab region.

He hailed Egypt’s success in its economic and development process, which is a model to be followed by other countries in the region.

Lebanese Prime Minister Mikati lauded Egypt’s efforts to assist Lebanon through its critical times, most notably during the coronavirus pandemic and last year’s massive explosion in Beirut.

The meeting also reviewed the latest developments in the Lebanese political scene, in addition to ways to enhance the existing bilateral co-operation between the two brotherly countries. President Sisi and Prime Minister Mikati also discussed regional developments, Radi added.
