Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati said on Friday that establishing a Japanese industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) would help expand the presence of Japanese companies in Egypt and deepen economic co-operation between the two countries.
The remarks came during a meeting in Japan with the president and chief executive of the Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport and Urban Development (JOIN), as part of Abdel-Aati’s visit to the Asian country.
The talks focused on opportunities for cooperation in infrastructure, investment and urban development.
Abdel-Aati highlighted Egypt’s infrastructure expansion in recent years, including new road networks and urban development projects, and expressed keenness in strengthening JOIN’s presence in the Egyptian market.
He said Egypt offers Japanese companies opportunities to diversify production bases and supply chains, citing the country’s strategic location and its network of free trade agreements linking it to Arab, African and European markets.
The minister also welcomed ongoing engagement between JOIN and the Suez Canal Economic Zone and said he hoped to see that co-operation translated into concrete investments in infrastructure and logistics projects.
