President Tshisekedi, appreciated the sincere and diligent Egyptian endeavors to reach a balanced solution to the issue of Ethiopia’s dam

President a Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a phone call with Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi during which the two leaders reviewed bilateral relations as well as the developments of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
President Sisi affirmed the Egyptian firm position on the need to reach a binding legal agreement regarding the rules for filling and operating the dam before the next rainy season in order to preserve the rights of the downstream countries and in order to preserve regional stability.
Sisi also referred to Egypt’s support for the Sudanese proposal to form an international quartet under the chairmanship of the African Union to mediate this issue.
President Tshisekedi, for his part, appreciated the sincere and diligent Egyptian endeavors to reach a balanced solution to the issue of Ethiopia’s dam that takes into account the interest of all parties.
During the call, President Sisi also affirmed Egypt’s pride in the friendly cooperation relations with Democratic Republic of Congo and its keenness to develop these relations at all levels, including transferring expertise and building Congolese capabilities in all fields.
This comes in addition to strengthening close coordination between the two countries on regional files of mutual interest, especially in light of the current Congolese presidency of the African Union.
President Tshisekedi, meanwhile, affirmed the DRC’s keenness to advance cooperation with Egypt in various fields, especially in light of the pivotal role of Egypt at the continental level in maintaining security and stability and achieving development.
