Egypt and Jordan have agreed to deepen co-operation in energy, natural gas and mining, while increasing the participation of Egyptian petroleum companies in infrastructure and technical service projects in Jordan.

The agreement was reached during talks in Amman on Sunday between Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Ali Al-Kharabsheh, as part of Badawi’s visit to the Jordanian capital.

The two ministers discussed mechanisms to enhance energy integration between the two countries, explore new areas of co-operation in the mining sector and maximise the use of their available resources, expertise and capabilities.

Badawi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership with Jordan in the energy and mining sectors, building on the close relations between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

He highlighted the successful coordination and growing integration between the two countries in the natural gas sector in recent years, stressing the importance of building on these achievements to develop new joint projects.

The talks also covered opportunities to expand the participation of Egyptian petroleum companies in Jordan’s energy and infrastructure projects. Discussions included the potential role of additional Egyptian firms, such as Eprom in operation and maintenance activities, and Town Gas and Modern Gas in natural gas distribution projects.

For his part, Al-Kharabsheh described Egyptian-Jordanian relations as a leading example of Arab co-operation, particularly in the energy sector. He said the achievements accomplished by the two countries over recent years provide a strong foundation for a new phase of co-operation based on strategic projects that deliver sustainable economic benefits.

The meeting also reviewed ways to further develop natural gas co-operation, building on the success of Fajr Egypt-Jordan Natural Gas Company in transporting and supplying natural gas, as well as collaboration with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), with the aim of enhancing energy security and supporting economic integration between the two countries.
