Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a meeting on Tuesday with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the high-level meeting of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The two ministers affirmed the depth of Egyptian-Jordanian relations and their commitment to boosting bilateral co-operation, as well as advancing the trilateral co-operation mechanism among Egypt, Jordan and Iraq in a manner that serves the common interests of the three countries.
Discussions during the meeting focused on developments concerning the Palestinian issue and efforts to complete implementation of President Trump’s plan. The two ministers also discussed means to consolidate stability in the Gaza Strip, ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance and address developments in the West Bank, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nader Zaki stated.
They asserted their rejection of annexation policies and settlement expansion, as well as settler violence, stressing the need to preserve the existing historical and legal status quo in Al Quds.
Abdelatty also renewed Egypt’s support for the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites.
The Egyptian and Jordanian foreign ministers also exchanged views on regional developments and stressed the importance of de-escalation and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Arab states.
They reiterated their condemnation of Iranian attacks targeting Jordan and other Arab countries.
Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Jordan in confronting any attacks that threaten its security and sovereignty.
