The Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdel Latif, met on Sunday with the Chief Executive Officer of Japan’s Kyoto Eikokan educational group, Hidetaka Matsuo, and a delegation from Kyoto University of Nursing and Health Sciences to discuss strengthening bilateral co-operation in technical education and advancing the implementation of a joint agreement to develop Egyptian technical schools.

The agreement provides for the transformation of 20 technical schools into international applied technology schools specialising in nursing, elderly care and information technology.

The initiative will adopt Japanese curricula and standards and equip schools and their skills and training laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities in line with Japanese educational and training systems.

During the meeting, Minister Abdel Latif reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to deepening educational co-operation with Japan and benefiting from its expertise.

He highlighted the longstanding partnership between the two countries, noting that Egypt now has 103 Egyptian-Japanese schools, alongside ongoing co-operation in curriculum development.

The minister also reviewed the outcomes of his recent visit to Japan, during which the agreement was signed in what he described as a pioneering step in bilateral technical education co-operation.

The 20 schools will comprise 10 nursing schools, five information technology schools and five elderly care schools.Preparations will focus on upgrading infrastructure, strengthening operational capacity and developing appropriate educational and training programmes, with classes expected to begin in the next academic year.

For his part, the group CEO praised the ministry’s commitment to modernising technical education and emphasised the importance of developing young human capital.

He reaffirmed the group’s readiness to contribute its expertise, including by providing opportunities for Egyptian personnel to study and gain practical experience in Japan before returning home to support national development.

He also expressed his ambition to establish a sustainable educational partnership between the two countries.

The meeting also reviewed practical implementation requirements, equipment needs and proposed training programmes.

Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to complete the necessary preparations ahead of the planned launch.
