Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar affirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships in emergency medicine and ambulance services as part of the ministry’s strategy to develop the healthcare system in line with the highest international standards.
These remarks came during a meeting the minister had on Wednesday with a high-level delegation from Kokushikan University of Japan to discuss prospects for expanding bilateral co-operation in emergency medicine and ambulance services.
During the meeting, Abdel-Ghaffar praised the success of the first phase of co-operation between the two sides, which included the training of ten cohorts of Egyptian paramedics in Japan.
He noted that the graduates now constitute a strong foundation for transferring advanced Japanese expertise and best practices to the Egyptian Ambulance Authority.
Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar noted that the minister discussed the establishment of a specialised Egyptian-Japanese Academy for Ambulance Services and Emergency Medicine.
He also directed the commencement of preparations for a twinning agreement between the proposed academy and Kokushikan University to ensure the sustainability of high-quality education and the graduation of paramedics trained to international standards.
The minister also directed the expansion of co-operation to include the deployment of Japanese experts to Egypt to assess ambulance performance, identify training requirements and provide practical on-the-job training programmes.
For their part, representatives of Kokushikan University expressed their appreciation for the warm reception and support provided by the Egyptian side and confirmed their readiness to present the proposals to the university administration and begin implementation procedures.
They also praised Egypt’s rapid progress in developing its healthcare system.
