Minister of Health and Population Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar received on Wednesday Mitsuo Ouchi, President of Hiroshima University, to discuss ways of boosting co-operation in medical education, training, and the exchange of expertise.

Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the depth of Egyptian-Japanese relations and the shared commitment of both countries to expanding co-operation in medical education, according to Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

Discussions during the meeting focused on mechanisms for applying the Japanese “Tokkatsu” system as an integrated model for developing physicians’ personal and behavioral skills, alongside the exchange of expertise in medical training through joint programmes, specialised workshops, and reciprocal academic visits.

The two sides also reviewed opportunities for training on the latest advanced medical technologies, most notably the da Vinci Surgical System, with the aim of enhancing physicians’ capabilities in performing precision surgeries and keeping pace with global advances in robotic procedures.

For his part, Ouchi expressed his aspiration to consolidate the strategic partnership between Hiroshima University and Egyptian universities, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to supporting the development of medical education in Egypt through knowledge exchange and the transfer of Japanese expertise.
