Egypt is keen to consolidate health co-operation with India and expand pharmaceutical investment and technology transfer to support the development of its healthcare system and boost domestic drug manufacturing, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said.

Abdel Ghaffar made the remarks during a meeting on Monday with Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh K. Reddy to discuss ways to deepen bilateral co-operation in the health sector and explore new areas of joint work and expertise exchange.

The talks covered several areas of mutual interest, including priority healthcare fields, traditional medicine and a proposed memorandum of understanding on pharmaceutical co-operation, Health Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.

The two sides also discussed opportunities to increase Indian investment in Egypt’s pharmaceutical sector, transfer technology and establish joint ventures. Such efforts would help localise drug production, strengthen manufacturing capacity and enable Egypt to benefit from Indian expertise in the industry.

They also discussed the possibility of including India on Egypt’s list of reference countries for pharmaceutical regulatory purposes. The move would strengthen co-operation between the regulatory authorities of the two countries and facilitate the registration and circulation of pharmaceutical products in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
