Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Saturday with Greek Foreign Minister Georgios Gerapetritis to discuss ways of strengthening Egyptian-Greek relations and the latest regional developments, amid the strategic partnership and continued coordination between the two countries.
The two ministers stressed their commitment to building on the growing momentum in bilateral ties and expanding cooperation in the economic, investment and energy sectors.
They also welcomed the Egyptian-Greek-Cypriot trilateral cooperation mechanism and expressed their readiness to further coordinate within the framework to serve their common interests.
They exchanged views on regional developments, stressing the need to intensify diplomatic efforts and support political solutions to de-escalate tensions.
Abdelatty underscored the importance of avoiding military escalation, prioritising diplomacy and safeguarding the security and freedom of international navigation, given the serious repercussions of current tensions on energy security and global trade.
Regarding Lebanon, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and national institutions.
He called on Israel to halt all military attacks against Lebanon and fully withdraw from Lebanese territory to help strengthen the country’s security and stability and prevent further regional escalation.
The ministers also discussed developments in Sudan.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions, stressing the importance of launching an inclusive Sudanese political process that safeguards the interests of the Sudanese people and ensures unfettered humanitarian aid delivery, in coordination with regional and international partners.
