Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif signed on Monday a letter of intent with Wilfried Konner, State Minister for Education and Culture in Germany’s Free State of Saxony, to establish a strategic partnership in technical and vocational education and training. The agreement was concluded during Abdel Latif’s visit to Germany to strengthen cooperation in developing Egypt’s technical education system.

The partnership aims to provide innovative learning opportunities aligned with modern technical and educational standards, equipping Egyptian vocational graduates with professional, technical, and language skills. It also seeks to foster collaboration with industry, chambers of commerce, and training institutions, while sharing data on labor market needs and promoting cultural and professional exchange between Egypt and Saxony.

Key areas of cooperation include Egypt’s Applied Technology Schools (ATS), with the Egyptian side providing infrastructure, training centers, teachers, and student recruitment, while Saxony contributes expertise on priority professions, curricula, teaching materials, and quality assurance measures. The agreement also covers continuous information exchange, policy development, and educational exchange programs.

The letter of intent builds on discussions held in Cairo in April 2025 between Abdel Latif and Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer, which explored expanding applied technology schools and preparing skilled workers for labor market demands.

Officials said the signing reflects progress in Egypt–Saxony cooperation and marks a new step toward strengthening strategic collaboration in vocational education and training.
