Egypt and Germany have stressed the prime importance of maintaining the security of navigation in the Red Sea, and ensuring the smooth flow of international trade, in line with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held phone talks on Tuesday with German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, as part of efforts aiming to consolidate bilateral ties, and discuss the latest regional developments, a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry revealed.
The two ministers hailed the significant progress in Egyptian-German relations in recent years across various fields, and voiced keenness to carry on with joint efforts over the coming period to further advance bilateral ties and expand co-operation in a manner that reflects the two countries’ shared interests and the level of existing co-operation.
On regional issues, the two chief diplomats emphasised the need to step up efforts to de-escalate tensions and contain the situation in the region.
They also underscored the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to promote diplomatic solutions and prevent the conflict from spreading, while working to contain tensions and restore regional security and stability.
