Minister of Youth and Sports Gowhar Nabil met on Friday with Morinari Watanabe, President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).

The meeting was also attended by Ihab Amin, President of the Egyptian and African Gymnastics Federations and member of the FIG Executive Committee.

The meeting took place just hours before the opening of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup for men and women, hosted by Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium Indoor Hall, which will run until April 6.

During the discussion, Minister Nabil highlighted Egypt’s growing international role in sports governance, noting that, with the backing of the political leadership, Egyptians now hold several senior positions in both international and continental federations. He emphasised that the country’s world-class sports facilities and robust infrastructure position Egypt to successfully host major global competitions.

Morinari Watanabe expressed full confidence in Egypt’s sports infrastructure and reiterated his unwavering support for the country, stressing that Egypt is fully capable of organising top-tier gymnastics competitions across all age groups.

Ihab Amin noted that Egypt is the only country worldwide to have five individuals occupying influential positions within the International Gymnastics Federation, underscoring Egypt’s expertise and leadership in the sport.

The championship features 128 athletes from 33 countries. As the host nation, Egypt is represented by 10 male and female gymnasts. Participating countries include Algeria, Armenia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Spain, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Norway, New Zealand, Panama, the Philippines, Qatar, Slovenia, Slovakia, Sweden, Turkey, Ukraine, India, and Cameroon.
