Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy met French Ambassador to Egypt Eric Chevallier and his accompanying delegation on Wednesday to discuss ways of boosting co-operation in the social and development fields.
The two sides reviewed existing areas of co-operation between the Ministry of Social Solidarity and France, as well as prospects for expanding the partnership in the coming period, in line with Egypt’s efforts to strengthen its social protection system and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.
The meeting also explored potential areas for further co-operation, including the exchange of technical expertise and knowledge, the development of social programmes and initiatives, support for vulnerable groups, and the expansion of economic empowerment and capacity-building programmes.
Morsy stressed the ministry’s keenness to boost international partnerships and exchange expertise in social protection, social care and economic empowerment.
She said investing in people was a key pillar of Egypt’s efforts to achieve sustainable development and improve citizens’ quality of life.
The minister highlighted the ministry’s social protection programmes, including the conditional cash-transfer programme Takaful and Karama, as well as the Strategic Financial System for Economic Empowerment programme. It is aimed to help work-capable families gradually move from reliance on social assistance towards productive activities and sustainable incomes.
For his part, Chevallier reaffirmed France’s commitment to strengthening co-operation with Egypt in the social and development fields.
He praised the ministry’s role in developing Egypt’s social protection system and supporting vulnerable groups.
