Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with French Health Minister Stéphanie Rist on the sidelines of the “One Health” Summit in Lyon to strengthen bilateral cooperation in healthcare.
The talks focused on preventive and curative care, reproductive health, and sharing expertise in universal health insurance and reducing surgical waiting lists. The ministers also discussed France’s support in providing medical services to the injured in Gaza and reinforcing the health system there, stressing the importance of international coordination to ease the humanitarian crisis.
They reviewed joint projects, including the development of 35 primary healthcare units backed by the French Development Agency. Cooperation in medical education, nursing capacity building, and partnerships with leading French institutions was also explored.
The meeting addressed Egypt’s proposals for the upcoming World Health Assembly on radiology and liver diseases, as well as opportunities in pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing and advancing green transformation in healthcare.
The Health Ministry said the discussions reflect the depth of Egypt–France strategic ties and open broader prospects for strengthening Egypt’s health system to better meet challenges and improve services for citizens.
