Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has directed continued daily and intensive follow-up on the hijacking of the transport vessel MT Eureka, which includes Egyptian sailors among its crew, after the ship was seized off the Somali coast.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is closely monitoring the situation. The Egyptian Embassy in Mogadishu is in constant contact with Somali authorities and holding high-level discussions with relevant officials to ensure decent living conditions for the Egyptian sailors on board and to work toward their swift release. The embassy has also arranged communication channels for the sailors to stay in touch with their families.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian Embassy in Riyadh, accredited to the Yemeni government, has been instructed to engage with Yemeni authorities and the ship’s owner to push for the sailors’ release and guarantee proper living conditions during their detention.
The minister also directed the consular sector of the ministry to meet regularly with the sailors’ families to update them on the efforts being made to secure their release.
