Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, stressed the urgent need to de-escalate tensions, restore calm and stability across the region, and pursue diplomatic solutions to contain the ongoing crisis and prevent further escalation.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Saturday on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) in Baghdad, Iraq.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ambassador Nader Zaki said the talks focused on regional developments and efforts to reach an agreement that would help contain the current crisis, prevent the conflict from widening, and pave the way for the resumption of diplomatic engagement.
Abdelatty also emphasised the importance of safeguarding freedom of international navigation and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of trade through vital maritime routes.
He highlighted the significant impact of the crisis on the global economy, particularly on energy and fertiliser supply chains and international trade, underscoring the need to minimise such disruptions.
The Egyptian foreign minister further stressed the importance of respecting the security and stability of the Gulf states and all countries across the region.
He called for an immediate halt to all hostile acts targeting Saudi Arabia and condemned what he described as unjustified attacks against the Kingdom.
