Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, held separate telephone calls Saturday with his Italian and Norwegian counterparts to discuss bilateral relations and regional and international developments, his ministry said.
Abdelatty and Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani discussed ways to further strengthen ties, building on recent progress in several areas, the ministry said.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments, stressing the importance of diplomacy, dialogue and de-escalation, and warning against military escalation that could threaten regional stability and freedom of navigation, it added.
In a separate call with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, Abdelatty offered Egypt’s condolences over the death of King Harald V, expressing sympathy to the royal family and the Norwegian people.
The two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding co-operation between Egypt and Norway, according to the ministry.
Their talks also covered the Palestinian issue, developments in Lebanon and Syria, and Iran’s nuclear programme.
Both sides stressed the need for continued diplomatic efforts and political solutions to prevent further instability. They also discussed efforts to reach a political settlement to the conflict in Ukraine.
