Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity, Maya Morsy, witnessed on Friday the signing of two co-operation protocols aimed at boostingthe empowerment and participation of people with disabilities in the economic, educational, social and cultural fields.
The first protocol brings together the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the Differently abled Fund (Qaderoon Bel Ekhtelaf) for Supporting People with Disabilities and the Sawiris Foundation. It establishes a broader framework for co-operation in economic empowerment, education and scholarships, capacity building and community participation.
The agreement will also support the participation of people with disabilities in the Diarna exhibitions and expand their access to markets and economic opportunities.
The second protocol brings together the Differently Abled Fund, the Sawiris Foundation and El Gouna Film Festival to promote accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities at the festival and develop a more inclusive model that addresses their needs and experience across different aspects of the event.
The initiative covers physical accessibility, information and communication, digital platforms, services and programmes, as well as selected film screenings. It will be implemented in co-operation with Together Inclusive for Community Inclusion.
The co-operation also aims to extend its impact beyond the festival by contributing to the development of a national guide for inclusive cultural activities, environments and events.
The guide is intended to provide a practical tool for cultural institutions and event organisers to apply accessibility and inclusion standards more systematically and expand the impact of successful practices.
