Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, has reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to expanding economic co-operation with Eritrea, increasing trade and investment, and supporting the engagement of Egyptian companies and the private sector in priority projects across the Eritrean market.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday with Economic Adviser to the Eritrean President, Hagos Ghebrehiwet.
The discussions focused on ways to advance bilateral co-operation in line with the directives of the political leadership of both countries, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Nader Zaki said in a statement.
He noted that the minister underscored, during the meeting, Egypt’s interest in strengthening economic ties with Eritrea, particularly through greater investment and trade opportunities.
He highlighted the readiness of Egyptian companies and the private sector to contribute to priority projects in Eritrea, with particular emphasis on energy, industry, infrastructure, trade, fisheries and pharmaceuticals.
Abdelatty further affirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide technical assistance and training in areas identified as priorities by the Eritrean side, building on the longstanding and distinguished relations between Egypt and Eritrea.
The minister also briefed the Eritrean official on preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the Alamein Africa Forum, scheduled to take place from October 2 to 4.
He highlighted the forum’s role as a platform for promoting economic and investment partnerships across Africa and facilitating engagement among governments, business communities and financial institutions.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to maintaining regular consultations and coordination on issues of mutual interest, with a view to strengthening bilateral co-operation and contributing to regional security and stability, the spokesman concluded.
