Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met on Wednesday with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.
During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s deep pride in the historic ties between Egypt and the DRC, welcoming the outcomes of President Félix Tshisekedi’s visit to Cairo last June.
He expressed Egypt’s interest in further advancing bilateral co-operation across the political, economic and development spheres, while working to increase trade and investment between the two countries.
The minister also highlighted the opportunities for Egyptian companies to contribute to the implementation of the DRC’s development plans, reflecting the potential for enhanced private-sector co-operation.
In this context, he invited the Congolese business community and companies to participate in the Alamein Africa Business Forum, to be held in Alamein from October 2 to 4, 2026 alongside the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit.
On water security, Minister Abdelatty and Minister Wagner stressed the importance of respecting the rules and principles of international law governing transboundary watercourses, particularly the principles of no harm and prior notification.
They also affirmed the need to uphold a spirit of consensus and brotherhood in efforts to restore inclusivity within the Nile Basin Initiative.
The two ministers exchanged views on security and political developments in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region, discussing ways to support ongoing efforts to promote stability, peace and security across both regions.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain close coordination and regular consultation on issues of mutual interest, with a view to advancing the shared interests of Egypt and Congo
