A delegation from the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, led by Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif, participated in the Education World Forum 2026 in London, United Kingdom, from May 17 to 20, 2026, under the theme: “Strong, sustainable and inclusive education: building resilience, fostering equity, and driving change.”

The Education World Forum (EWF) is the world’s largest annual gathering of education and skills ministers.

Supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the Department for Education, and the British Council, the forum provided a global platform for dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of policy and practice across education systems worldwide.

As part of the official programme, the minister delivered a keynote address during the plenary session titled “Educating for Future Readiness in a Rapidly Changing World.”

In his remarks, he highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to modernise the education system by strengthening critical thinking and digital skills, expanding access to quality education, enhancing technical and vocational education pathways, and leveraging technology to improve learning outcomes.

Egypt’s participation reflected the country’s continued commitment to aligning its education reforms with international best practices and the evolving needs of the future workforce.

On the sidelines of the forum, the minister held a series of bilateral meetings with international counterparts and global education leaders.

Discussions with Emin Amrullayev, Minister of Science and Education of Azerbaijan, focused on exchanging experiences in education reform and exploring opportunities for future collaboration.

In a meeting with Buti Manamela, Minister for Higher Education and Training of South Africa, discussions centred on strengthening cooperation in technical and vocational education.

The Minister also met with Georgia Gould, UK Minister for School Standards, where both sides reaffirmed shared priorities related to school education and system improvement.

In addition, the minister met with Olli-Pekka Heinonen, Director General of the International Baccalaureate (IB), to discuss opportunities for collaboration and the continued development of internationally recognised education models in Egypt.

In line with Egypt’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and advancing education reform, the Ministry of Education and Technical Education announced a new proposal for strategic collaboration with the British Council and Estyn, the education and training inspectorate for Wales.

The proposed collaboration aimed to support quality assurance and continuous improvement across Egypt’s education system through the development and refinement of inspection frameworks, alongside capacity building for ministry teams through training and mentoring programmes.

Under the proposed partnership, the British Council was expected to coordinate delivery and facilitate access to international expertise and resources, while Estyn would provide advisory support informed by its longstanding experience in inspection and school improvement.

The collaboration marked an important step in supporting Egypt’s ongoing education reform efforts and strengthening the quality of teaching and learning nationwide.

Mark Howard, Country Director, British Council Egypt, said:

“The Education World Forum was an important opportunity for global education leaders to come together, reflect on shared challenges, and explore innovative solutions. We were pleased to support Egypt’s participation and facilitate meaningful engagement at this significant event.”[1]

During the forum, the Egyptian delegation also participated in a range of official meetings, side events, and policy discussions focused on key education priorities, including digital learning, teacher development, inclusion, and school improvement.

These engagements provided opportunities to exchange experiences and learn from education systems and reform initiatives from around the world.

Harry Haynes, Regional English and School Education Programmes Lead remarked:

“This was a valuable opportunity to share the work we are doing together in Egypt on English teaching and learning, school standards and curricula, while also learning from innovations across other national education systems.”
