Egypt has declared an Ethiopian embassy counsellor in Cairo persona non grata and given him 48 hours to leave the country, an official source said, after Ethiopia took the same measure against a member of Egypt’s embassy in Addis Ababa.
The source described Ethiopia’s move as regrettable and unjustified, saying Egypt had repeatedly affirmed its total rejection of interference in the internal affairs of other countries and of commenting on events abroad, including in Ethiopia, out of respect for international law and the United Nations Charter, the Middle East News Agency reported.
The Ethiopian side had repeatedly blamed external parties for its successive internal crises and its failure to manage domestic affairs, the source added.
Egypt’s action was taken in application of the principle of reciprocity, the source said.
