CAIRO – Egypt’s Health and Population Minister Khalid Abdel Ghaffar announced that Egypt was declared free of the endemic transmission of measles and rubella (German measles) by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The declaration of elimination was made by the WHO during the fourth meeting of the Regional Verification Commission for Measles and Rubella Elimination (RVC) from November 1 to 3.
Rubella is a contagious viral disease that can cause multiple birth defects as well as fetal death when contracted by women during pregnancy.
