Egyptian Ambassador to the Czech Republic Mahmoud Afifi met on Wednesday with Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to discuss the current state of Egyptian-Czech relations and efforts to achieve a qualitative leap in bilateral co-operation.

The meeting addressed political and economic relations, with both sides reviewing ways to build on the history of bilateral ties and the significant potential and opportunities available in both countries.

Afifi stressed Egypt’s priority of strengthening relations with the Czech Republic in a manner that serves the common interests of the two countries and their peoples.

He noted ongoing discussions to expand cooperation in key sectors, including industry, energy, transport, information technology, agriculture, water resources management and tourism.

For his part, Babiš expressed hope for increased cooperation between Egypt and the Czech Republic across various fields in the coming period.

He highlighted his country’s high regard for Egypt and praised its significant regional and international standing, particularly its balanced positions and proactive approach towards key foreign policy issues.

The meeting also covered preparations and communications for upcoming high-level reciprocal visits and engagements, with both sides stressing the importance of building on recent positive developments in bilateral relations.

These developments include a tangible increase in Czech tourism to Egypt and ongoing efforts to boost trade and investment.

The two sides discussed preparations for the Joint Ministerial Economic Committee meeting and the Egyptian-Czech Business Forum, both expected to be hosted by Cairo before the end of this year.

They also emphasised the importance of strengthening cultural and scientific cooperation, including increasing the number of scholarships offered by the Czech Republic to Egyptian students to study at Czech universities and scientific institutions.
