Egypt condemned, in the strongest terms, the opening by the so-called “Somaliland”region of northwestern Somalia of a purported embassy in occupied Jerusalem, “in flagrant violation of the international law and relevant resolutions of international legitimacy, and in a manner that directly undermines the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem”.
In a statement by the Foreign Ministry in Cairo on Tuesday, Egypt reaffirmed utter rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at “entrenching an illegal reality in the occupied Jerusalem, or conferring legitimacy on any entities or arrangements that contravene the rules of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.”
East Jerusalem is an occupied Palestinian territory, since 1967, and any steps aimed at altering its legal and historical status are null and void and have no legal effect, Cairo stressed.
It also emphasised its full support for the unity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the integrity of its territories. It also rejects any unilateral measures that undermine the unity of Somali territory or infringe upon its sovereignty.
