Egypt on Saturday ondemned in the strongest terms an attack on an oil tanker operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as it transited the Strait of Hormuz.
The attack, carried out with a missile, posed a serious threat to maritime security and the freedom of trade through one of the world’s most important waterways, Egypt’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
Egypt expressed its “full solidarity” with the United Arab Emirates and categorically rejected attacks targeting ships and civilian infrastructure or threatening navigation in the region.
It stressed the need to respect freedom of navigation on international waterways and called for de-escalation and the prioritisation of political and diplomatic solutions to promote regional security and stability.
