Egypt has strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Mali, which resulted in the killing of the country’s defence minister and a number of other casualties.
In an official statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, the country voiced solidarity with the people and government of Mali in combatting such attacks. It also stressed its firm condemnation of all acts that undermine the country’s security and stability.
In addition, Cairo reaffirmed its longstanding and unequivocal rejection of all forms of terrorism and extremism, and underscored the importance of consolidating regional and international co-operation to combat terrorism, cut off its sources of financing, and counter the extremist ideologies that fuel it.
It also highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach linking security and development, particularly in the Sahel region and across the African continent, where such threats remain prevalent.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Egyptian nationals in Mali to adhere to instructions issued by local authorities and to exercise caution to ensure their safety.
