Egypt condemned, in the strongest terms, the Israeli occupation forces’ storming of the Qalandiya Training Centre operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and the detention of students and staff inside the facility.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Foreign Ministry described the incident as a “flagrant violation of the inviolability of United Nations premises and part of Israel’s continued escalation and unjustified violations in occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank”.
The raid constituted a serious breach of international law, international humanitarian law and the four Geneva Conventions governing the protection of civilians under occupation, Egypt said.
Cairo also reaffirmed its categorical rejection of any measures aimed at undermining UNRWA’s mandate or obstructing its humanitarian and relief operations.
Egypt called on the international community, the UN Security Council and the United Nations to assume their responsibilities and take urgent action to halt repeated Israeli violations against UN facilities, ensure the protection of UNRWA and enable the agency to continue carrying out its UN mandate in support of the rights of Palestinian refugees in accordance with relevant international resolutions.
