Egypt on Sunday denounced assaults by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank, stressing its outright rejection of violence and violations targeting the Palestinian people. The Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern over the escalation of attacks, which have included burning homes, property and religious sites, as well as assaults on civilians. It warned that such practices fuel tensions and undermine prospects for peace and stability.
The statement said the violence committed by settlers constitutes a flagrant breach of international law, humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, in addition to contravening UN resolutions, notably Security Council Resolution 2334, which affirms the illegality of settlements and calls for their immediate cessation. Egypt urged the international community and key actors to assume their legal and moral responsibilities, take decisive measures to halt settler attacks and ensure protection for the Palestinian people.
The ministry also highlighted the importance of building on the declared position of US President Donald Trump rejecting the annexation of Palestinian land or displacement of Palestinians. It stressed the need to continue efforts to de-escalate, improve humanitarian conditions and create the environment for resuming the political process aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
