Egypt strongly condemned Israel’s implementation of the “E1” settlement project in the occupied West Bank, warning that the project seeks to divide the West Bank and encircle and isolate East Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry On Thursday, Egypt stressed that the project undermines the geographical contiguity of the Palestinian territories and undermines prospects for establishing an independent and viable Palestinian state, constituting a flagrant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
Egypt reiterated its firm rejection of attempts to entrench the status quo through illegal settlement expansion or alter the legal and demographic character of the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing that such measures undermine prospects for the implementation of the two-state solution.
It also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take serious measures to halt these violations.
It reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to establishing an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
