Egypt has condemned, in the strongest terms, the missile and drone attacks targeting the Saudi cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran, which left 73 civilians injured, including women and children.
A statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday referred to the attacks as a “dangerous escalation, a violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a threat to the security and safety of its people”.
In addition, Egypt voiced full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, and reaffirmed its support for the Kingdom in confronting any threats to its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its outright rejection of attacks targeting civilians and civilian facilities.
Egypt also stressed that “the security of the Kingdom is an integral part of the Egyptian and Arab national security”.
Major General Turki Al-Malki, spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen, said that Houthis had targeted “civilian and economic facilities” in the Saudi cities of Abha, Jazan, Najran and Khamis Mushait.
The Houthi attacks came after the group accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out an attack on a prison in Yemen’s northern Al-Jawf province.
