Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Randa el-Menshawy, met on Wednesday with Elena Panova, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt, to discuss avenues of co-operation between the Ministry of Housing and UN organisations.
The two sides discussed preparations for the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), scheduled to be held in Baku later this month. The forum is one of the world’s leading international events focused on sustainable urban development issues.
During the meeting, the housing minister reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to boosting co-operation with the United Nations on sustainable urban development files and benefiting from international expertise and best practices in urban planning, sustainable housing, new city development, and climate change adaptation, in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
El-Menshawy noted that Egypt’s participation in WUF13 represents an important opportunity to showcase the country’s pioneering urban development experience and the progress achieved in the establishment of new cities, housing projects, and the upgrading of unsafe areas.
For her part, Panova expressed appreciation for the ongoing co-operation with the Ministry of Housing, praising major urban transformation witnessed across Egypt in recent years.
She also underscored the United Nations’ keenness to support sustainable urban development efforts and promote the exchange of expertise in this field.
