The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) is seeking to strengthen regulatory co-operation and expand pharmaceutical partnerships with China, EDA Chairman Ali El-Ghamrawy said during a meeting with Yang Sheng, Deputy Commissioner of China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA).
The meeting took place on Wednesday during El-Ghamrawy’s visit to China and focused on regulatory co-ordination and new areas of co-operation in pharmaceuticals.
El-Ghamrawy highlighted Egypt’s capabilities in pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing, as well as recent regulatory and manufacturing developments that have strengthened the sector’s competitiveness.
He said these developments support Egypt’s role as a regional pharmaceutical manufacturing hub and a gateway to African markets.
He said Egypt’s regulatory and manufacturing progress provides a strong basis for expanding international co-operation, technology transfer, knowledge exchange and capacity building.
These efforts would help strengthen the security and sustainability of pharmaceutical and vaccine supplies, he added.
The two sides discussed co-operation in pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing, technology transfer, regulatory expertise and the exchange of best practices.
They also explored ways to strengthen coordination between the EDA and NMPA and develop joint cooperation frameworks.
El-Ghamrawy stressed the importance of benefiting from China’s advanced technologies and expertise while building on Egypt’s manufacturing capabilities and regulatory framework.
He said this could support pharmaceutical and vaccine development and open new opportunities for investment and partnerships.
