Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) Mustafa Sheikhoun discussed on Friday with a high-level Chinese delegation, led by Gönbo Zhaxi, Chairman of the Qinghai Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), ways to strengthen economic and investment co-operation between the two countries.
The delegation included senior provincial officials, members of the Standing Committee of the Qinghai Provincial Committee, heads of committees responsible for population, resources and the environment, education, science, culture and health, as well as the deputy head of the Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports Committee, the deputy mayor of Xining, and representatives of the Provincial Committee’s General Office.
He highlighted SCZone as a major example of Egyptian-Chinese trade and investment co-operation, pointing to the success of Chinese industrial developer TEDA-Egypt, which hosts numerous Chinese companies across various industrial sectors.
Shekhoun also highlighted Chinese investments outside the TEDA zone, particularly in the Sokhna Industrial Zone and the West Qantara Industrial Zone, saying the diversity of these investments reflects the opportunities and advantages offered by SCZone to Chinese companies.
He expressed hope that the discussions would help attract further Chinese investments to SCZone and open new opportunities for companies and investors from Qinghai to benefit from available investment opportunities, supporting industrial localisation, production and exports.
For his part, the Chinese official thanked SCZone for its hospitality and efforts to deepen friendship and expand investment opportunities. He said the reciprocal presidential visits and growing Egyptian-Chinese co-operation under the Belt and Road Initiative provide an important foundation for expanding economic and investment ties.
The Chinese delegation also presented Qinghai’s natural and industrial potential, including salt extraction and related industries, new materials, zero-carbon initiatives, clean energy and tourism. The province also has capabilities in lithium battery production for mobile phones, electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
