Egypt remains Africa’s top foreign direct investment (FDI) destination for the fourth year running, drawing in $15.5 billion in 2025, a prestigious organisation has said.

The figures highlight the country’s enduring pull for both foreign and local investors.

Quoting the World Investment Report 2026 of the United Nations Trade and Development, the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Centre cited the agency’s praise of Egypt’s performance to broad structural reforms, major infrastructure improvements, and ambitious national projects.

These projects, it said, have made the country more competitive and investor-friendly.

“Egypt’s success in pulling in big investments across energy, industry, logistics, tourism and real estate shows how much the investment climate has improved,” leading economist Rashad Abdo said.

Over the past few years, the government has focused heavily on infrastructure, expanding the national road network, upgrading ports, creating new industrial zones, and building modern logistics hubs.

“These steps have made Egypt far more attractive to investors,” Abdo told The Gazette.

The authorities have also introduced measures to speed up business setup, create a single point of contact for investors, and offer incentives for key projects.

Economists point to the Golden Licence scheme and upgrades at the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones as important factors in helping new projects get off the ground more quickly.

Looking ahead, the focus should now be on clearing away the remaining hurdles for investors, particularly by making more industrial land available, accelerating licensing, and maintaining steady economic policies, Investment Minister Mohamed Farid said.

At a recent cabinet meeting, Minister Farid proposed launching the “Boost Exports from Governorates” initiative under the prime minister’s patronage, working with local and international partners.

The programme aims to broaden Egypt’s base of exporters by evaluating companies’ readiness, raising awareness of global market standards, and offering training and technical support to promising manufacturers.

Egypt’s strategic location as a regional energy and trade hub, combined with its trade agreements across Africa, the Arab world and Europe, gives it a strong edge for investors looking to tap into emerging markets.

The minister stressed that the next priority is to turn these investment inflows into genuine productive growth that strengthens the economy, increases foreign currency earnings, and makes Egyptian products more competitive worldwide.
