Egypt participated in the ministerial meeting of the Palestine Donors Group on Wednesday, calling for the immediate implementation of early recovery projects in the Gaza Strip and stressing the need to restore essential services without delay.

Egypt’s ambassador to the European Union (EU) and Belgium Ahmed Abu Zeid represented Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati at the meeting, co-hosted by the EU and the Palestinian Authority ((PA).

The gathering brought together Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, foreign ministers from EU member states and donor countries, senior international officials, and the head of Gaza’s National Administration Committee.

Discussions focused on the progress in the PA’s reform agenda and ways to implement the Gaza peace plan, including maintaining the ceasefire, launching early recovery projects, and restoring basic services.

The EU also announced a new initiative to support early recovery projects in Gaza with international donor participation. It reiterated support for the PA to assume its responsibilities in Gaza following the completion of the National Administration Committee’s transitional mandate.

In his address, Abu Zeid highlighted Egypt’s efforts to advance all phases of the Gaza peace plan and welcomed the EU initiative, stressing the urgent need to restore essential services without restrictions.

He said the humanitarian suffering in Gaza could not withstand further delays or remain tied to political conditions, calling for immediate international action to address the population’s basic needs.

Egypt also reiterated that lasting peace depends on a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue through the implementation of the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
