Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, held on Friday evening separate phone calls with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul to discuss the latest regional developments.

The discussions followed the announcement by the US and Iran of a ceasefire and planned negotiations between the two sides in Islamabad.

Abdel-Aati briefed his Italian and German counterparts on Egypt’s intensive efforts in recent weeks to contain regional escalation, in close co-ordination with regional partners. He stressed the importance of building on the ceasefire as a key step toward de-escalation, emphasizing that diplomacy and negotiations remain the top priority at this critical stage.

He underlined the need for unified regional and international efforts to sustain the ceasefire and create favorable conditions for constructive talks between Washington and Tehran that could ultimately bring an end to the conflict. He also expressed hope that the upcoming negotiations in Islamabad would yield positive results.

The talks also addressed the escalating situation in Lebanon amid ongoing Israeli attacks targeting multiple areas.

Abdel-Aati reiterated Egypt’s full condemnation of the strikes, describing them as a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law. He called for an immediate halt to the attacks and urged the international community, including the European Union, to take responsibility and apply pressure to stop them.

The ministers also welcomed planned talks in Washington between the Lebanese and Israeli sides as a step toward opening direct negotiation channels.

Abdel-Aati highlighted Egypt’s ongoing contacts with US and Lebanese officials in this regard.

Both the German and Italian top diplomats commended Egypt’s constructive role in de-escalation efforts, agreeing on the importance of continued co-ordination and reaffirming that diplomatic solutions remain the best path to regional stabi
