Egypt’s petroleum sector has added 45 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, along with 540 barrels of condensates, by bringing three new wells online and restarting a fourth after repairs, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources on Wednesday.

The new production comes from fields in the Western Desert, the Gulf of Suez and the onshore Nile Delta.

The additions are part of an integrated programme aimed at accelerating the start-up of new wells, repairing idle wells and restoring their production rates.

The programme also seeks to maximise the use of existing infrastructure while investment partners resume spending on exploration, development and production activities.

The Ministry of Petroleum said the return of investments to targeted levels, following the settlement of outstanding dues owed to partners, is directly supporting drilling and development programmes.

This is helping bring new wells online and restart wells that had been shut down due to limited spending, supporting efforts to increase domestic natural gas production.

The petroleum sector is continuing to work with production companies and investment partners to accelerate drilling, development and well-repair programmes.

It is also seeking to maximise the use of existing infrastructure and production facilities to bring more wells online and strengthen gas supplies to the domestic market.
