Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Saturday hailed Egypt’s support in the construction of the Julius Nyerere Dam and Hydropower Plant, saying the project would provide nearly half of the country’s electricity needs.
“The Julius Nyerere project will help ensure a stable supply of electricity, support industrialisation and investment, and advance our development vision,” Hassan said at the inauguration of the project.
She said its completion reflected Tanzania’s ability to take “decisive decisions” and overcome challenges that had delayed a national ambition dating back decades, AlQahera News reported.
Hassan thanked Egypt and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for their support and for helping implement the project, describing it as the product of fruitful co-operation between the two countries.
