Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy Lerato Mataboge on Monday to discuss ways to strengthen co-operation in energy and infrastructure and advance development and continental integration.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Nader Zaki said Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting African infrastructure development and strengthening regional connectivity to help achieve the goals of Agenda 2063. He stressed the need to accelerate implementation of projects under the second phase of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA PAP II).
The minister also highlighted the importance of building on the outcomes of the El Alamein Africa Forum, hosted by Egypt earlier this month, which provided a platform for mobilising funding and investment and strengthening partnerships between governments and the private sector.
Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s readiness to share its infrastructure expertise with fellow African countries, noting that requests to benefit from Egyptian experience in this field had become increasingly common during Egyptian-African meetings in recent years.
He cited successful major projects implemented by Egyptian companies across Africa, describing them as an important form of the integration and cooperation that African countries have long sought to achieve. He said this approach reflected Egypt’s vision, demonstrated at the El Alamein Africa Forum, of moving African co-operation beyond discussions about development needs towards the actual implementation of projects that benefit countries across the continent.
