Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, stressed the importance of building on the positive momentum in Egyptian-Algerian relations and translating it into practical initiatives that advance the shared interests of the two countries.
He made the remarks during his meeting on Thursday with the Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs of Algeria, Ahmed Attaf, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
At the start of the meeting, minister Abdelatty highlighted the strong and longstanding ties between Egypt and Algeria, underscoring the importance of following up on the outcomes of the ninth session of the Joint Higher Committee and expanding cooperation in the economic, trade and investment fields.
He also invited Algerian companies and business representatives to participate in the Alamein Africa Business Forum, to be held in Alamein from October 2 to 4, 2026, alongside the African Union Mid-Year Co-ordination Summit.
The two ministers emphasised the importance of maintaining regular consultations and close coordination between Cairo and Algiers on regional and international developments of mutual interest.
Their discussions covered the Palestinian cause, the situation in Sudan and developments in the African Sahel, with both sides stressing the need to strengthen joint Arab action in addressing the challenges confronting the region, said the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nader Zaki.
He added that the two sides also discussed developments in Libya and ways of supporting efforts to achieve a political settlement. They agreed to maintain close consultation and co-ordination, including through the trilateral neighbouring countries mechanism, in support of a Libyan-led political process that preserves Libya’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The meeting underscored the broad scope of Egyptian-Algerian coordination, combining efforts to deepen bilateral economic ties with continued consultations on regional crises and support for political solutions that safeguard the sovereignty, stability and territorial integrity of Arab and African states.
