The Ministry of Health and Population has held a high-level meeting with a delegation from global biopharmaceutical company Pfizer to explore opportunities for strengthening pharmaceutical security, localising critical industries and advancing healthcare cooperation in Egypt.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, Pfizer Regional President for the Middle East, Russia and Africa Rodrigo Luis Puga, and Regional Manager for Egypt, Sudan, the Levant and Iraq Amr Seif.
Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar said discussions focused on localising pneumococcal vaccine production in Egypt to support the national immunisation programme, meet domestic demand for childhood vaccination and facilitate the transfer of advanced medical technology.
The initiative will also build the technical capabilities of Egyptian personnel, strengthen supply-chain resilience and support Egypt’s Vision 2030 objectives for local vaccine manufacturing.
The meeting reviewed co-operation under presidential public health initiatives, particularly women’s health and early cancer detection, building on achievements in innovative treatments, psychological support and continuing medical education, including a specialised postgraduate diploma in breast oncology.
Both sides also discussed expanding scientific research and clinical trials, including precision medicine and rare blood disorders such as sickle cell disease and haemophilia.
They emphasised the importance of regulatory and technical support to ensure research meets the highest international standards.
Further discussions covered access to comprehensive, innovative haemophilia treatments at competitive prices, tackling antimicrobial resistance, and developing centres of research excellence, advanced diagnostic capabilities and precision medicine.
Pfizer representatives welcomed progress in Egypt’s healthcare sector and its commitment to building a sustainable health system.
They reaffirmed the company’s commitment to an active partnership with the Egyptian government in support of national healthcare priorities and improved health outcomes for citizens.
