Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) Chairman Ali el-Ghamrawy stressed the importance of boosting partnerships between the authority, international universities and research institutions to support scientific research, foster innovation and develop the pharmaceutical industry.
El-Ghamrawy made the remarks while addressing the second Pharmacy Summit 2026 (Pharma 360) on Saturday, hosted by the Faculty of Pharmacy at the British University in Egypt (BUE).
The event aims to strengthen ties between regulatory and academic institutions and bridge the gap between scientific research and practical applications in the pharmaceutical sector.
El-Ghamrawy highlighted the importance of integrating science, practice and innovation in the era of digital transformation. He said the pharmaceutical sector had evolved into an interconnected ecosystem bringing together knowledge, data, technology, regulation, industry, and medical and pharmaceutical practice.
He outlined the EDA’s efforts to advance digital transformation, modernise its regulatory framework and harness data, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to improve regulatory efficiency and enhance the quality, efficacy and safety of medicines.
Technology should serve as a means of modernising the system and improving its efficiency, ultimately protecting patients and meeting their needs, he added.
Pharma 360 provides an important platform for dialogue and collaboration across the pharmaceutical ecosystem, bringing together science and practice, research and industry, innovation and regulation, and technology and patients’ needs.
