Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS) Yehia El-Wathiq Bellah announced that Egypt’s exports of medical industries hit $632 million from January to August 2022, while the country’s imports of medical products reached $3.3 billion in the same period.
His announcement came during a meeting arranged by the Export Council for Medical Industries “ECMI” yesterday with a delegation comprising some 50 importers from 12 world countries.
El-Wathiq Bellah said that Egypt’s exports of medical industries stood at $696 million in 2021, while the country’s imports of medical products amounted to $5.4 billion in the previous year.
He noted that Egypt exported its medical industries in 2021 to Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, UAE, Algeria, Kazakhstan, Libya, Morocco, and Jordan, while the country imported medical products from Switzerland, Germany, China, the USA, France, Italy, Ireland, Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden.
ECS head stressed the importance of increasing trade exchange between Arab and African states, especially in the field of medical and pharmaceutical industries as an absolute necessity.
He stated that Egypt pays great attention to developing different industries, notably the medical ones and all related supplies, noting the state provides incentives to foreign investors in the industrial sector.
El-Wathiq Bellah noticed that the Trade and Industry Ministry and the ECS attach major importance to increasing the country’s exports of medical industries to reach $100 billion in the next five years.
