The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) Chairman Ali El-Ghamrawy met with representatives of Minapharm, led by Chairman and Managing Director Saad El Bardissi, to discuss a strategic project for developing and manufacturing an Ebola vaccine.
The meeting is part of Egypt’s efforts to localise vaccine and biologics production and strengthen national capabilities to respond to epidemics and health emergencies.
El-Ghamrawy highlighted the project’s importance to health security in Egypt and Africa, saying it would enhance Egypt’s capabilities in vaccine and biologics development and manufacturing, support its position as a regional hub for the industries, and help provide sustainable solutions for managing outbreaks and health emergencies.
Minapharm representatives praised the EDA’s regulatory role in supporting the development of the vaccine and biologics sectors. They stressed the importance of continued co-operation with the authority to accelerate technology transfer, localise manufacturing, and strengthen national vaccine production in line with international quality, safety and efficacy standards.
The meeting covered the project’s scientific, regulatory and manufacturing aspects, as well as cooperation mechanisms with participating international entities and companies. The two sides also discussed a proposed regulatory pathway to facilitate and accelerate the vaccine’s development and registration while ensuring compliance with approved quality, safety and efficacy requirements.
They further reviewed the project’s implementation stages, leading to the integrated manufacturing of the vaccine in Egypt.
