CAIRO – Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp commended on Wednesday Egypt’s efforts to strike a deal between Hamas and Israel to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and put an end to the humanitarian tragedy in the Strip.

This came during the joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Wednesday.

The Dutch minister said his country supported Egypt’s genuine efforts to reduce escalation in the region.

He described as “excellent” Egyptian-Dutch ties in all fields, particularly in the energy and hydrogen ones.

He said there are opportunities to expand co-operation between Egypt and the Netherlands, particularly in the water and energy sectors.

As for the developments of the situation in the region, the Dutch minister said his country will exert utmost effort to reach a ceasefire, release hostages and ensure the delivery of sustained humanitarian aid to the enclave.

Veldkamp said that his country will work on implementing a two-state solution, expressing his worry about the Israeli Knesset’s decision regarding the UNRWA.

The Dutch minister expressed his country’s appreciation of Egypt’s efforts regarding Lebanon and the delivery of urgent aid to Beirut.

As for Sudan, he stressed the importance of the meeting on the agenda of the UN Security Council regarding Sudan this month.
