Minister of Social Solidarity and Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the “Differently-Abled” Fund Maya Morsy witnessed on Tuesday the signing of a protocol, under which the fund will support Egypt’s hosting of the second phase of the 10th Special Olympics Regional Games 2026, known as “Performance Sports”.
The event will bring together 173 male and female athletes and heads of delegations from 12 countries, along with 42 participants in the Athletes’ Preparation Conference for persons with disabilities.
Morsy welcomed Egypt’s hosting of the games, saying it reflects the state’s continued efforts to place the rights and affairs of persons with disabilities at the heart of social and development policies.
She stressed that Egypt views disability as an issue of rights, citizenship and social justice, rather than one of marginalisation.
Morsy said the Special Olympics reflects Egypt’s belief that persons with disabilities are full partners in society, with rights, abilities, aspirations and an essential role in the country’s development.
She described sports as a key tool in promoting this approach, providing persons with disabilities with opportunities to demonstrate their abilities, build self-confidence, strengthen independence and expand social inclusion.
